Raid earth options bug spray

“Environmental hazards: This product is extremely toxic to fish. Do not apply to water. Do not contaminate water by disposing of equipment washwaters.”

So what’s the deal? Another smooth marketing ploy? I guess by calling it “earth options” they are trying to fool consumers into thinking that this is an environmentally friendly product? Come on!

Money Momentum – The Key to Financial Success

By Brad Schneider
www.blog-hints.com

Money Momentum is when you reach a point in your life where you are able to use money to make money, and the more money you have, the more you can make. For most Americans, money momentum cannot happen until several things happen.

First and foremost, you must be personally responsible for your actions. There are many things people do that contribute to acheiving money momentum, as well as keeping themselves from it. For instance, If you get a simple speeding ticket, not only will you have to pay the cost of the ticket, but you will more than likely receive a negetive report for you car insurance, hence costing you more for insurance. The one “Bad Action” has significantly increased the amount of money you are paying out per year.

Reign in the spending. This is often easier said than done. Once you can keep from spending money you don’t have, you are well on your way.

Once you can keep from spending money you don’t have, you need to work on eliminating debt. For many, this can be overwhelming just thinking about it. If you have multiple credit cards, pick the one with the highest interest rate and focus on it. Make paying this credit card off a major goal that you often think about. This can take years to accomplish, but when you are finally debt free, you will feel like a whole new person. You will be closer to achieving money momentum.

Once you have your debt paid off, you now have a lot of monthly cash you no longer are spending paying off debt. This is a fragile time. Many people feel that since they have their credit cards paid off, they can afford to BUY BUY BUY! Don’t do it! Take that monthly cash and start saving. Save enough so that you will be able to have enough cash on hand to get by for 3-6 months without work.

After you have achieved that savings goal, you should start investing. I would recommend saving at least %10 for your retirement. If your company offers a 401K match, contribute to the maximum. Otherwise, you should consider a Roth IRA or other equivelent plan.

Now that you are free of debt and now saving, you will have cash to buy things you want, instead of racking up debt. You can now use your money to make money for you. You have achieved money momentum!

30 OctWinning in the Cash Flow Business

The latest get rich quick scheme to hit late night infomercials is called “Winning in the Cash Flow Business”. From what I can tell, this is a spin-off of the get rich in real estate scheme. The infomercial is hosted by Gary Collins, and he goes on to tell all about the founder, Russ Dalbey and the easy steps to making a fortune and ultimately, achieving financial freedom and a better quality of life. This program focuses on finding notes (somehow), listing them on his website, and then once a match is made, you make money. This is about as detailed as it gets in this 30 minute sales pitch. You can call them at 1-800-761-2613 or visit their website for more information if you’re interested. I’m not.

Family Blog

By Brad Schneider

As my family grows larger, and the members are scatters not only around the country, but around the world, we have that a great way for everyone to keep up to date is through a family blog. Sure, we don’t have a problem calling each other. After all, as technology advances, communicating long distance has become quite affordable, but what about sharing those Birthday party pictures with Uncle Ron in Japan? I set up a free blog on Blogger.com and named it accordingly. Then I invited all members of my family to become members, and it is really as easy as clicking on a link.

So, now we use a photo sharing program called “hello” to upload your photos right into the blog and adding whatever comments we like.

This Family blog keeps all family members in the loop, no matter where they are. We don’t need to email pictures, they are right there on the blog. Using blogger, we are sure not to publish our blog publicly so things stay relatively private.

Dealing with Blogspam

By Brad Schneider
www.blog-hints.com

The term “blogspamming” refers to the act of stuffing a blog comments section with a link or other off-topic and unwelcome advertisement.

When I started blogging roughly a year ago, I would notice that on occasion someone would stick blogspam in my comments, “Nice Blog- Check mine out!” it would say. Normally I would oblige, but over the last year things seem to have escalated quite a bit. This tactic has gone from the eager blogger, anxious for someone, anyone, to read his/her blog to the typical spammer trying to direct readers to their website. Anymore, these aren’t even blog sites they are directing to.

In an attempt to combat this, Blogger has come out with word verification. You’ve seen it, you have to type in the letters and numbers in order to post a comment. This has been somewhat affective, but there are still some die hard blogspammers out there that are willing to go through the trouble to get their link in. So the question is, what can we do? Our options are limited, but here are some initial thoughts:

1. The first knee jerk thought I had was to follow the link then dig on their blog or site until I come up with an email address. After I get their email address, it wouldn’t be that difficult to subscribe it to some other spam. I’m really not convinced that this is the right thing to do.
2. If it is a blogger, and they accept comments of their own, you can post in their comments that you don’t appreciate it.
3. You can always not allow comments to your postings.
4. Finally, you can just delete the comment altogether, not stress out about it, and move on.

I think the fourth option is the best one. At least until your blog host can figure out a way to deal with this.

29 OctThe Blog

The Blog

By Brad Schneider
www.blog-hints.com

The Blog, or Weblog first emerged in the 1990′s as an avenue for regular people to express themselves online. Blogs are popular because reading can read another’s writing without input from editors, managers, or anyone else.

Getting Started
Getting started is very easy to do. Probably the hardest thing about getting a blog started is trying to figure out what to blog about. Once you have that down, choose a host. There are many different blog hosts out there, and most are free. I use Blogger.com. I like it, because it is free and very user friendly. You don’t need to know any HTML or other programming to get going. Of course, Blogger is not the only one there is, just the only one that I use.

Taking it to the next level
If your blog is getting a bit stale, you can spice it up a bit with some HTML programming. I learned most of my programming skills while customizing my own blog.
If you need a little tutoring on some minor programming of you blog, just do a google search for “html tutor”, and you will find many very helpful sites. Most improvements you can make to your blog are fairly simple, and most beginners can pull it off. If you are browsing around and see something on someone else’s blog that you “gotta have”, this is how you get it…. If you are using Microsoft Explorer, open the view menu and select “source”. Then just scroll down until you find the part that you want, then select the “area”, and copy it. Then simply drop it into your own blog and make any changes to make it more like your own!

Please keep in mind:
I have seen a lot of blogs that are packed so full of “neat stuff”, it makes me not want to read the blog. Just remember, that just because you can do something, it doesn’t mean you should. If you want people to read your blogs, make it appealing to them. I have seen many blogs that contain so much code, it takes an enormous amount of time for the page to load. It’s best to keep it kind of simple.

Making Money on Your Blog
Did you now you can actually make money from your blog? Well, if people read your blog, then you can make money from it. Now hold on, you’re probably not going to get rich off it, but a little bit certainly won’t hurt! Probably the most popular means of making your blog work for you is Adsense. You have probably noticed these ads by Google on many pages you visit. If you ever clicked on one of these ads, you helped somebody get paid. These ads are very easy to set up. You will need to register, then you will be able to pick the style of advertisement for your blog. Do you want some discrete text boxes? Or do you want to go with the big skyscraper in your sidebar with the graphics in them? This is all customizable to your preferences. It is recommended that you try to make the ad colors match the rest of your blog. The easiest way to do this is from the Google Adsense Adsense site. If you know the 6 digit RGB color code you can make an exact match. You should also keep in mind that these ads are generated from page content, so if you have a blog devoted to, let’s say, bridal goods, then your ads may be a bit more relevant than someone whos blogs are their own daily ranting and have no particular subject. Yahoo! is now beta testing their version of this program, and they are taking sign-ups. MSN has indicated that they also are looking into starting an online ads program. Another way to earn money from your blog are affiliates. Affiliates are companies that pay allow you to place ads on your blog, and when a sale is made due to a link from your site, you get paid. There are many companies out there that offer this partnership, just go out and look. I highly recommend against paying any money for directories of these companies. It just doesn’t make sense! You can normally find several simply by using your search engine and searching for them.

Blog Etiquette
I have never seen an instruction manual on what to say in a blog, and that is because anything goes here. You should, however, keep in mind that there is a common courtesy with blogs. If a blogger is allowing the general public to comment on their blog, then you should follow the same guidelines that the blogger goes by. For example, if this blog appears to be family oriented, then I would assume that the blogger would not like foul language in the comments area. However, if the blog is carries an adult oriented tone, then I would say anything goes. Another thing I would like to put out is a little practice I call “Blog-Spamming”. Yes, you have a nice new blog, and you want everyone to read it, but please don’t go from blog to blog pasting a ready made line of code in bloggers comment area, linking back to your blog. This tends to aggravate the blogger. If you are going to do so, you should make sure it is ok with the blog owner first. If your blog is good enough then the traffic will come to you.

Quest for Healthy Cereal

By Brad Schneider
www.blog-hints.com

I have been watching lately what I am eating. As a result, I have lost 30 pounds in the last 14 months. I am not on any special “diet”, but I am choosing to live a healthier lifestyle. I am looking at nutrition labels more, and am keeping an eye on things like calories, protiens and sugars. I’d like to share a recent comparison of mine, and try to figure which of these two cereals yu would rather feed your children before school on a big test day:
Option A:

This cereal has 190 calories per serving, 46g carbohydrates, and 19g sugars.

Option B:

This cereal has 110 calories per serving, 25g carbs and 13 sugars.

I would assume just by looking at these labels, that option B would be better than option A. Not only for feeding my children, but myself as well. I feel guilty every time I let my kids eat all the sugary cereal then send them off. OK, here is the shocker.

Option A-Post Heart Healthy Raisin Bran

Option B-Post Marshmallow Mania Pebbles, with Sprinkles Baked On!

First, you would need to sign in to the Blogger dashboard. After you select your blog, select “templates”

Then you will need to scroll down until you find code that refers to your sidebar. This will normally be towards the very end (This depends on your template). Once you find your links area, simply copy and past your code snippet, pretty much anywhere.

Once you find your links area, simply copy and past your code snippet,

You can preview to make sure you get it right. After you’re happy with the way it looks, you will need to save the changes.

28 OctSecond Chance

After President George W. Bush announced early this month the nomination of Bush-camp insider Harriet Miers for the position of US Supreme Court Justice, the conservative base went nuts. After years of moving more and more to the left, appealing to the liberals, handing over power to the political body that did NOT win the election, the conservative base simply had enough.
Yesterday, Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination after three weeks of extreme pressure from within the Republican party. This, to me, is a perfect chance for the President to nominate one of the so-called extreme right candidates that the senate has been sitting on for years. Put someone out there the republican base can get behind. This is a chance to retake Washington!

26 OctBook Review – Bleachers, by John Grisham

I have always been a John Grisham fan, and enjoyed every one of his book until now. I made it to page 49 then decided that this book does not deserve my time. My wife thought that I didn’t give a chance, but then again, she couldn’t get all the way through it either. If you’re considering this book, I would recommend picking something else.
