19 SepFoxnews.com is a Splog

I used to go to Foxnews.com to get all the latest news, and today I went there to read more of the Story of Thailand’s Coupe. I landed at a site that appeared to be a splog pretending to be FoxNews.com.

What has this site become? Do they not make enough money on their cable news programs they have to resort to “ad-ding” up their site?

If this was a less reputable site, it would be ridiculed for having so many ads on it.

15 SepOh, What a Night!

Something happened at work last night, and I thought I’d share.

For background, I work in the maintenance department at a company that prints high volume magazines and ads. We have a number of printing presses and bindery equipment.

Last night, we (the maintenance team) were in the office enjoyng some downtime when one of the helpers on one of the presses ran into the shop and announced that a man had been pulled into the press.

I immediately jumped from my chair and ran out to the pressrom floor. I was very uneasy about what I might be running into. These machines don’t let you go, they pull you through.

I was somewhat relieved to find a man screaming (and not dead). He had his arm pulled between two rollers, about 3 inches apart. He was in a great deal of pain, and in order to get him out we needed to remove one of the rollers.

Now wouldn’t it figure, we get to the job and don’t have the size wrench we need? I felt awful!

We scrambled and finally found the right wrench.

When we got the roller off, and pulled him from the machine, he was still hurting and I volunteered to drive him to the emergency room of the nearby hospital.

He ended up having crushed muscle and some bruising, etc but I told him he was damn lucky to be alive!

The reason he was not pulled completely through the machine was because they were preparing for the next job, and they were only “inching” the press and not continuously running it.

13 SepIs It On?

As I posted previously, since I’ve been reworking Bradsblog, I managed to screw up my feed.

I think I might have fixed it, by deactivating my Podpress Plugin. I need to do some more testing, but I think it’s working now and I can focus my valuable time and energy on other things, like actually putting together a meaningful post!

Have you noticed, the background is a bit different now? I’ve been doing some tweaking with the graphics. I like the change, there are a few other things I am pondering. Keep an eye out to see if you notice anything else!

What do you think of the changes?

12 SepGoing Down

How long has it been since they decided to shut down that oil pipeline in Alaska for repairs? I remember paying nearly $2.90 for a gallon of gas then, and there was word that gas prices would skyrocket even further.

This morning on my way home from work, my local gas station had regular unleaded for $2.10.

I realize that the government opened up some of the strategic reserves, but I have to wonder if the drop in prices has anything to do with the upcoming elections. What do you think?

11 SepTwo Blogspot Blogs

This week, I came across two blogs hosted by Blogger that actually don’t suck! I’m not doing a review of them, just a friendly plug to show that there are actually a couple on there that are OK.

The first one I discovered in the comments area of Nektros.com. The blog is called Couch Culture, and talks about a wide range of things that I can appreciate.

The other blog I came across on Digital Point forums, after I put up the bat signal for good Blogger blogs.

The blog is called 7 & a Switchblade and not only does it NOT SUCK, but it also seems to update just about daily.(Which is more than I can say for my own blog!)

Both blogs, in my opinion are very good and could probably do better by ditching Blogger.

09 SepWhy Call Them Podcasts?

I was reading a comment on Nektros.com where Chris from purplepig.net said:

“So why do they call them Podcasts? I know its all related to iPod’s but nowadays iPod’s have nothing to do with them”

This brings up a interesting point.I have recrded a coupe of podcasts now, and I listen to a few also. However, I do not listen to blog podcasts on my iPod. When I come across a podcast, I want to hear it right now. The only podcast I listen to on my iPod is Dave Ramsey.

Come to think of it, I don’t know of anybody who listens to blog podcasts on their iPod!

Maybe they should call them something else, like blogcast!

09 SepP-Nut is Free!

Well, I am happy to announce that P-Nut (my youngest son) had his Spica cast removed yesterday! We are all very happy about it, maybe now we can get back into a normal routine!

07 SepI’m Having Feed Issues

I noticed it the other day, as I was browsing around Digital Point Forums. Normally, right near my avatar is the title of my latest blog post. It wasn’t working.

Then, I went to my Firefox live bookmarks for my blog, it wasn’t working either.

I started looking into the issue, and I think my problem has something to do with my audio player that shows in my podcast posts. I think there is an issue with running javascript within a post.

I’ll continue to look into this, and if anyone else is using this plugin and knows of a quick fix, please let me know!

06 SepI Don’t Need Another Hobby!

blog directory
I run a pretty busy lifestyle, although my wife might call me lazy because of all the time I spend behind this computer. I consider being a webmaster a part time job. It does, after all, pay some of the bills.

When I went into the admin area of my Blog Directory, I about fell over. 257 links waiting for approval! JEEZ!

This is an enourmous task to go through, because I know that most of them are not worthy of the directory. They are either MFA sites (made for adsense) or Splogs. Since I’ve decided to get a bit more picky with the sites I accept, it’s even harder. (I don’t want blogs consisting of only feeds)

I am even considering outsourcing this task to one of the neighbor kids. Maybe I can pay him a few bucks to delete all the spam. I simply don’t have three hurs to go through all these links to check them out.

If you submit to this directory, I’ll give you a hint to get you approved quickly.

Featured and reciprocol links get approved fast. Then I go to the links that have good titles and descriptions, that make them look like real blogs and not splogs, or ad sites.
