I was recently in a debate involving juice boxes that we give our kids for lunch. The question is, are they healthy? I really can’t answer that, you’d have to ask a nutritionist. All I am armed with is my opinion. However, thanks to the internet I can do a little bit of research. I compared three popular luch box bevereges, and posted my findings here. All three brands were of the same flavor - Fruit Punch.
Here’s the breakdown:
| Content | Hi C | Capri Sun | Minute Maid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calories | |||
| Carbs | |||
| Sugars | |||
| Protien | |||
| Fat | |||
| Vitamin C | |||
| Sodium |
If you ask me, they all have a lot of sugar. So if it came down to it, I would go with the one that has 100% juice. Most brands offer varieties that contain 100% fruit juice.

You also have to consider what kind of sugars they are. Natural sugars, like the kind in fresh fruit, are much better for the body than High fructose corn syrup, which is probably the sugars making up your fruit punch. If you have to drink juice, you might as well drink the fruit juices that have low amounts of “added sugars” or sweeteners. Plus, if you stick with fruit juices, you get the benefits of the vitamins and nutrients.
