Festivus is a holiday that gained popularity after the airing of the episode of Seinfeld where George Castanza’s father invented the holiday Festivis.
It is celebrated on December 23 and there’s really not a lot of decorating required. In fact, that’s what is so nice about it. Instead of a tree, all you need to do is erect a simple pole. This snubs the commercialization of the traditional Christmas holiday.
Activities for Festivus include:
The Airing of Grievances – This is where you sit around the dinner table and let your friends and family know how they have disappointed you the previous year.
The Fruitcake - The only gift you need bring is the fruitcake. Give this gift to the most deserving. If you are the lucky recipient, you cannot eat it. Instead, you must keep it around all year and then re-gift it to someone else next year.
Feats of strength - Challenge other family members to various muscle-wielding activities. You know, to show who is dominant!
The evening it wrapped up by tackling the head of household to the ground and pinning him.
It’s nothing personal. It’s tradition!

I celebrate festivus by doing a pole dance in front of my grandma, mom and great aunt Bertha. My grandma says there is nothing like watching a 350 pound man in a thong doing a pole dance. It’s nice to be noticed!
