One of the biggest problems I have been faced with, is my lack of internet connection while away from my home. This problem has crippled my blogging as well as my website building activities. I think I may be on the verge of a breakthrough.
I contacted my cellular phone provider, T-Mobile this week and inquired about a data plan. What this would allow me is to buy a PC card, (GC-89 PC card) that fits in my notebook and picks the internet out of the air. This service will cost me 29.99 per month on top of the initial hit I’ll have to take on buying the card. The card costs $279.
I will keep posting on this as the details become clear and I make moves to get this going.

I have not researched this, but damn that sounds expensive for the card. Get a blackberry.

get a wifi card and go to starbucks or whatever. It’s more portable- more global.

Iniard-
A blackberry would not solve my problems, I need my computer to solve my problems. If I were just blogging, this may suffice but don’t forget I am managing nearing 20 websites!

Hiya:
Surfed here from DPoint.
I’m looking forward to reading about your experience with the T-Mobil Air Card. I REALLY need to find the perfect away-from-home solution so that I can get away from these same 4 walls more often. The Air Card sounds great because the signal is everywhere; I’m already a T-Mobile cell phone user so I think I’ll be stopping by my local retailer soon.
$30 per month is not unreasonable, but $300 for the card is a bit over the top. Price should start to come down soon, I hope.

Interesting topic… I’m working in this industry myself and I don’t agree about this in 100%, but I added your page to my bookmarks and hope to see more interesting articles in the future

Hi, We have used T-Mobile (Dell card) for about two years and are very happy with it. I am going down the highway (husband driving:cool:) and am on-line as i write. I use it in Oregon, Arizona, Texas and almost everywhere inbetween. It is a little slow but i would imagine that if i invested in a new card that would improve. The per month rate is great, Verizon and Cingular is at least $60 a month.

I have been using my Blackberry as a dial up modem for my laptop for nearly three years. I am a freelance webdesigner and I constantly need connection while away from the office. The Blackberry connection is actually faster then regular dial up service, but interesting enough, it is unnoticable from my T-Mobile aircard.
I’d suggest getting a T-Moble Blackberry since tethering is included in the monthly service and the connection speed is comperable to the aircard.

I’ve been using T-Mobile for over three years and gone through two air cards. The first was the Sierra 750 and my current card is the Sony Ericsson. I purchased a new laptop 3 days ago and have found out that my air card does not fit into my laptop. The new laptops require either a USB or Express Card. Do keep that in mind if you are looking for a aircard today but know you are going to be getting a new laptop. T-Mobile does not have a card that will work that I’ve been able to find at the stores.
As for the service, it is probably the slowest on the market with their top technology being EDGE moving to 3G in the future. AT&T is already using 3G.
